Paint Manufacturer Passes Away
Colonel John Maxwell, the paint manufacturer, died on Friday at his residence, 211 Morris street, of a complication of diseases. He was a son of John Maxwell, a carpenter and builder, was a musician in the National Grays, Eighteenth Pennsylvania Infantry; was rapidly promoted and served later in the Twenty-Third Pennsylvania Infantry. He distinguished himself for gallantry in many battles and was discharged wounded in 1863, but six months later he served as a volunteer with the Blue Reserves at Gettysburg.
