Letha M. Schakel, age 104 of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at West Ridge Nursing & Health Center in Knoxville. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. The family will greet friends following the service at the First Baptist Church in Monroe for a coffee time. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of John and Flora Jane (Woody) Kinart, Letha was born on November 25, 1909, in rural Monroe, Iowa. Letha graduated from Monroe High School in 1928. On November 28, 1929, she was united in marriage to Paul M. Schakel at the parsonage of the First Baptist Church in Monroe. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the TMTM Neighbor Club.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Jane (Gerrit) Renaud and Russell (Beverly) Schakel both of Monroe; eight grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 2000, an infant daughter, Baneta; a son LaVern. A sister, Sarah Beyer, a brother, Doyal Kinart and a son-in-law, DeVerne Schippers.
