Fay Cowan, 86, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Johnson Memorial Hospital after a monthlong illness. She was a resident of Trafalgar.

She was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Adair County, Ky., to the late Wesley and Bert (Dile) Burton. She married Alvis Cowan on Nov. 26, 1949. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2002.

Survivors include two children, Almeda Turpin of Trafalgar and Annette (Phil) Wesley of Mooresville; grandchildren, Matthew Alvis Turpin of Trafalgar, Justin Wesley and Kayla Fletcher, both of Indianapolis, Amanda J. (John) Canary and Gretchen Moore, both of Franklin, and Amberley Moore-Haney of Mooresville; great-grandchildren, Charles Alvis Canary, Amelia Jess Canary, Alaina Fay Turpin and Logan Wesley Haney-Smith; and special friends, Clara and Glen Flatt.

She also was preceded in death by her siblings, Van and Clay Fairly, Lester, Clayton, Mildred and Millie Burton, Beulah Sinclair and Exuria Goodin.

She attended Who So Ever Will Community Church in Edinburgh and was a member of Edinburgh Double Y Saddle Club.

She retired in 1978 from Arvin Industries in Franklin after 25 years of service.

She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, camping, horses and collecting Jeff Gordon memorabilia.

The Revs. Lewis Burton and Guy Hardin will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Who So Ever Will Community Church, 623 S. Eisenhower Drive, Edinburgh. Calling will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery.

Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh is handling arrangements.
