Obituary - Our dear mother and grandmother, Irene Gertrude Barber Thornley, passed away Friday evening, June 21, 1991 in Bountiful, Davis County, Utah, at the age of 91.

She was born October 5, 1899 in Kaysville, Davis County, Utah, and was the youngest child of eight, born to Benjamin Thomas Barber and Mary Bingham Barbar. She was raised in Clearfield, Davis County, Utah and attended school there.

On November 13, 1918, she married her sweetheart, Ivan John Thornley, in Ogden, Weber County, Utah; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple October 24, 1919. They celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to his death, September 27, 1986. They spent their years together living in Clearfield and Ogden.

She was a devoted member of the LDS Church, and was a member of the Ogden 9th Ward. She loved to quilt and was an accomplished seamstress.

She spent many happy hours sewing for her family and friends for more than 50 years. She devoted her life to her family and enjoyed every opportunity to visit with them.

Survived by son, Gary Ivan Thornley, Layton; daughter, Mrs. Leland (Beth) Murdock, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters, three brothers, her husband, her baby Afton Thornley, and her beloved son, Alden Barber Thornley.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m., at the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Layton, 250 North Fairfield Road, with Bishop Dee Staples of the Layton 20th Ward officiating. Friends and family may call at the mortuary Monday evening, June 24, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
