May 17, 10:00 a.m.Visitation for Charlie Stanton Alvis will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary (9101 Kern Canyon Road) on Thursday, May 16, 2002 from 4-8 p.m., and funeral services will be held at the chapel at Hillcrest Mortuary on Friday, May 17, 2002 at 10:00 a.m.Charlie was born on March 6, 1919 near Carthage, Tennessee, and he passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2002 in Bakersfield. He is survived by brother and sister-in-law Rupert and Alice Alvis; sister-in-law Reba Alvis; nephew and niece Ken and Felicia Alvis; nephew and niece Sonny and Peggy Carter; and niece Linda Alvis. Great-nephews and nieces include Corey Alvis, Trey Alvis, Sonja and Tim Filson, Melissa Carter, Alisha Alvis, Laura Shinn and great-great-nephew Seth Filson. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Alvis, sister Bualah Alvis, brother Roy Alvis, and nephew Rupert Alvis Jr.Charlie attended the Bluff Creek School in Tennessee and attended the Cedar Point Methodist Church. In 1935 Charlie made the big move to California. He initially lived in Bakersfield, but eventually made his home in Orange County. He had a versatile career which included working as a roustabout, pipe fitter, overseeing the production of soap for the White King Soap Company, railroad worker, and real estate. In 1998 Charlie moved to Bakersfield. He quickly established friendships by being involved at the Rasmussen Senior Adult Center. Charlies great joy was on the dance floor, where he was much in demand.Charlie will be missed greatly by all that knew him. As a neighbor, Charlie was the friendly person who took walks every morning. As a businessman, Charlie was the nice gentleman with a sharp mind for numbers. As a Senior Center participant, Charlie was the happy guy who always shook your hand, laughed easily, and danced till he was pooped. And as a family member, Charlie was a loving person who always put you in better spirits by his humor, stories, and loving ways. Well miss you Charlie.
