Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery under direction of Brooks-Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors, Tyler.
Mr. Evans died Dec. 18, 2013, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1946. In Selma, Ala. He attended Chicago schools and served in the U.S, Army. He lived in this area for more than 30 years, attended East Texas State University and Southwestern Christian College. He was a minister of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Remell Evans; and three brothers.
Survivors include sons, McArthur Evans r., Obinna Evans and Nathaniel Evans; daughters, Esalyn Evans Ware, Itoro Evans and Rashel Evans Robinson; sisters, Beverly Moore, Jeanetta Richards, Queen Ester Porter and Fannie Pearl Jackson; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

∼McArthur Evans Sr. was born on February 13, 1946 to the parents of Ethel Mae Evans Richardson and Willie Bell. He was raised by his grandmother Arwillie Evens in Selma, Alabama. She contributed greatly to his spiritual development and at the age of 14 he responded to Jesus Christ through baptism. The death of his grandmother force him to move to Chicago, Illinois and was then raised by his aunt Alcedine Evans and his uncle Nathaniel Evans.
McArthur met the love of his life Remell Evans in Chicago at 39th Street Church of Christ. The were married on August 8, 1970 and to this union 6 children were born. He was happily married for 35 year until her departure through death.
He served 4 years in the United States Army from the age of 18 until 22. He graduated from Southwestern Christian College and East Texas State University at Commerce. He was a police officer but dedicated the rest of his working life as a self employed paint contractor for over 30 years. McArthur served several congregation in the East Texas area as a minister, but his true passion for souls was displayed within the prison ministry.
He is survived by his 6 children; 3 girls, Esalyn Evans Ware, Itora Evans and Rashel Evans Robinson; 3 boys, McArthur Evans Jr., Obinna Evans and Nathaniel Evans; his God son, Jerry Alexander and God daughter, LaKetha Alexander; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; a dear companion an friend Tina Bircher; 4 sisters; a host of other relatives and friends.
