Mr. Ben S. Armistead, Jr. of Decatur died September 12, 2002 after a long illness. He graduated from John Marshall Law School and attended Georgia Tech. He served in the South Pacific during World War II as a Seabee in the United States Navy. Ben retired from the Georgia Power Company after 43 years of service where he was "Engineer of The Year" in Public Utilities. He was a Mason, a Shriner. and a member of The Decatur First United Methodist Church and the Keystone Class. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Pounds Armistead; his sons and daughters-in-law, Ben Selmor and Tina Berry Armistead and Doug Pounds and Anna Breen Armistead; five grandsons, Jeff, Kerry, Doug, Will and Ben; five great grandchildren, Steed, Hayden, Blair, Hope, and Ben IV; two sisters, Miss Cecelia Armistead of Atlanta and Mrs. Valda Pirkle of Aiken, SC; and sister-in-law, of Norcross. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 4 p.m., at Decatur First United Methodist Church, Dr. Tommy Green, Bishop Bevel Jones, and Dr. Daniel Armistead officiating. Interment Decatur Cemetery. Members of the Keystone Class, the Paty Class and The Choir Boys will serve as honorary escorts. Those desiring may send contributions to either The Methodist Children's Home, 500 Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030 or Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at A. S. Turner and Sons.
