Joshua Merritt Abrams, 35, of Lucasville, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, in Lucasville as a result of an automobile accident. He was born, Sept. 19, 1978, in Portsmouth, a son of Gary Louis and Laquita Jean Merritt Abrams.

Josh was a paramedic, an adjunct member of the faculty at Shawnee State University, and Assistant Junior High Basketball Coach at Valley Middle School. A 1996 graduate of Valley High School, he was an avid fan of the Valley Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Joshua Dylan Abrams of Minford and Brennan David Overby of West Portsmouth; one brother, Randy (Suzie) Abrams of Franklin Furnace; niece, Avala Abrams; nephew, Kellen Abrams; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Scioto Baptist Church with Loren Kuhn and Dan Widdig officiating. Burial will follow in Lucasville Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville, and for an hour before the funeral Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Timothy Johnson Account at 5/3 Fifth Third Bank for the benefit of Josh's two sons.
