Evin Fortune, 72, passed away Tuesday morning at the Swift Hotel in Knoxville. He had bee a resident of Knoxville since 1944 and was retired from the Veteran's Hospital where he had been a nurse's aid before retiring in 1962.

Born August 17, 1896 in Clarke County, Iowa he was the son of Edward L. and Rachel Roberts Fortune. He was united in marriage to Lucy Mildred Storm on February 19, 1917 in Lucas, Iowa and the couple made their home on a farm in Lucas County. They moved to Knoxville in 1944.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, one son Raymond in infancy and his wife on November 28, 1961.

Surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Alan Lenora Devore, Chariton; Mrs. Myron Darlene DeVore of Earlham, Iowa; two sons, Donald Fortune, Newton; Ivan Fortune, Knoxville; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers; Almond and Frank of St. Joseph, Missouri, Clelle of Cambria, Iowa and Earl of Promoise City, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. John Steck of Russell, Iowa.
