Howard Eldon Rumrey, (94) son of Mary (Addison) Rumrey and Howard I. Rumrey, was born August 13, 1918, and left us December 10, 2013. He is survived by his wife Esther, whom he dearly loved, as well as their daughters Kathryn Harrison (Robert) and Rhonda (Dan Lewis), grandsons Robert and Matthew Harrison, and three great-grandchildren. Howard was a farm boy during much of the Great Depression and attended North Dakota State University. He was proud of his service as a WWII Navy pilot, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as other honors. His family enjoyed listening to his many interesting stories about those times, making history come alive. Howard never met a stranger. In his travels as a steel building architect and sales representative, he visited many 3rd world countries and learned to appreciate those cultures. He delighted in meeting foreign-born people with a few words in their native language, telling them about how much he enjoyed their country. Howard was an avid golfer, fisherman, and woodworker, as well as a devoted family man, proud of his Revolutionary War and Civil War ancestors and of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Howard was interred at the Sacramento Valley Veterans' National Cemetery on December 18, in a private ceremony. Donations in his name can be made to Disabled War Veterans or the charity of your choice.
