Albertus B. Collins, 84, died Sunday at his rural Orland home.

He was born Aug. 8, 1911, in Millgrove Township to Albert and Eva Cleveland Collins.

Mr. Collins was a farmer. He graduated from Orland High School in 1929, and was a member of Orland First Congregational Church since 1926, where he currently served as a church trustee. He was Millgrove Township trustee from 1944 to 1952. He was a charter member and first director of the Soil Conservation District, and was instrumental in the organization achieving its state charter.

Mr. Collins served as a Steuben County Commissioner from 1952 to 1960, was a charter member of Orland Lions Club, and a member of Orland Masonic Lodge and Orland Volunteer Fire Department. He was a director of the Greenlawn Cemetery Association from 1950 to 1987, and had served as president of the association since 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Herberger, whom he married May 5, 1937; one son, Michael A. of Orland; one daughter, Sue Shaw of Potomac, Md; one brother, Cleveland "Ed" of Avila; one sister, Rachel Bair of Auburn; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Russell, and three sisters, Gilee Collins, Lois Carlisle and Floaid Carlisle.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Orland First Congregational Church, with Pastor Mark Emelander officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Orland.
