Clara Allen was born Dec. 26, 1862 in Pike County, Missouri, to Henry H. and Barbara F. Allen. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to The Dalles, and then to North Yakima, Washington Territory. Her mother was a sister of Ben Snipes, and H. H. Allen was a longtime partner with him in the cattle business.
Clara Allen married William H. Chapman on Dec. 13, 1882, in Wasco County, Oregon. W. H. Chapman then joined with H. H. Allen as drugstore owners in Yakima. Clara's only child, Hazel Gwendoline Chapman, was born Feb. 9, 1884.
Clara Chapman died July 1, 1888, in North Yakima, Washington Territory. Hazel Chapman died Aug. 14, 1890, and William H. Chapman died May 18, 1895.
