He resided in Kennebec County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on June 16, 1943 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Lester was "Killed In Action" in the D-Day Invasion of France during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
