He was executive director of Indiana Oil Marketers Association from 1974 until retiring in 1983. Although he previously worked 2 and a half years for Bonded Oil Co., Springfield, Ohio, he spent the majority of his career working for Shell Oil Co.
He joined Shell in 1938 as a trainee and rose through the executive ranks. In 1956, he was appointed to SHell's corporate headquarters in New York as advertising manager. In 1958, he came to Indianapolis and supervised the Indianapolis Shell Oil Division, which covered Indiana and Kentucky. When Shell modified its administrative structure into regions, he remained manaager of the Indiana region until retiring in 1971.
He was a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church and Indiana Petroleum Club.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Survived by wife Elizabeth W. (née Walker) McCaig; children John, William McCaig, Patricia McCaig-Walsh; sisters Audrey, Evelyn McCaig.
