Verna B. Hurley Obituary

(ROANOKE) Services for Verna B. Hurley, 93, of Roanoke were Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Welcome Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Ridley Herren, the Rev. S. T. Janney and the Rev. Ford Brown officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Hurley died Tuesday, Oct. 14, at her home.

Survivors include four daughters, Alene Driver, Betty Williams, Rebecca Kirby and Deborah Hurley, all of Roanoke; a son, Frank Hurley of Roanoke; a sister Myrtice Mitchell of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jody Driver, Gary Driver, Marvin Kirby, Mitch Pike, Jim Brown and Larry Driver. Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Williams, Cliford Brown, Clayton Brown, Hulon Carlisle, Jimmy Dewberry, Clinice Brown, Danny Ray Brown, Jimmy Young, Gary Boyd and Frank Knight.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Hurley was born July 13, 1910, the eighth of William Charlie and Callie Holloway Brown's 13 children. She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 50 years, and had been employed with Handley Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pierce Dean Hurley.
