At the age of 3, Richard moved with his parents from Royalton, MN to the Firman Community in Beltrami County. He attended country school to the 8th grade at Firman School in Cormant Twp. He spent one year living with his brother, Glenn, and attended school there. He then attended 2 years of ag school in Grand Rapids, MN. Following school, he returned to the family farm. He married Hazel Henjum June 8, 1937, in Minneapolis. They made their home in Cormant Twp where he farmed & logged most of his life. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Kelliher. He loved pitching baseball in his early years and enjoyed bowling into his 80s. He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting deer and fishing. He is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters, 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
