James WILLIAMS, was born Aug. 11, 1839, in Seneca County, Ohio; died at his home near Koleen, in Greene County, Indiana January 16, 1900 of paralysis. '

He was converted to Christianity when about sixteen years of age and joined the M. E. church. Afterwards united with the Regular Baptist church about twenty five years ago; In 1895 he cast his lot with the Missionary Baptist Church of Pleasant Ridge, and has been an active member of that body and a devoted Christian until death.

He leaves a wife, one son and four daughters to mourn their loss; an infant child had previously died.

He first settled in Jackson County, Indiana, but removed to Greene County in 1859.

He was married to Margaret AULT, July 25, 1861.

Mr. WILLIAMS was a member of the G. A. R. of Koleen, having served as a member of COMPANY I, TWENTY-NINTH REGIMENT INDIANA VOLUNTEERS; was drawing a pension on paralysis, nervous disability and varicose veins.

On January 8, 1900, he visited Squire ROACH and had a long business conversation, and when he went to get on his horse complained of feeling like having a chill, the first indication of his fatal illness. When he got home he went to bed. Dr. REECE, of Owensburg, and Dr. CRAVENS, of Bloomfield, were called. Everything that science or loving hands could do was done, but all this could not keep out the death angel who came early in the morning of January 16.

The nation loses one of its brave defenders, the State one of its valued citizens, the church one of its strong pillars, the family a kind and loving husband and father, the community one of its best neighbors, but our loss is Heaven’s gain.

Interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery, January 18, a large congregation being present, as everybody liked “Uncle Jimmy,” as he was familiarly called.
