She was born to John and Marian Buechle in Garrison N.D., on Feb. 4, 1914.
Lydia attended grade school in Garrison and high school in Martin, N.D., where she graduated valedictorian of her class. While working in McLaughlin, S.D., she met and married the love of her life, John Hirning, on Oct. 28, 1938. They later followed the Hirning family to the Missoula area. The majority of their time together was spent in Lolo, where their home became known as the "Hirning Hotel"Because of their eagerness to house missionaries traveling through the area. Lydia loved to entertain her friends, family and neighbors, and enjoyed many hours working in her flower garden. She was an active member of her church and accompanied John on one mission trip to Columbia.
In 2001, Lydia and John moved into Missoula Manor where they enjoyed many retirement years.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, John; her sisters, Tillie, Anna and Ida; her brother, John; and one grandson, Aaron Beebe.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (JoAnn) of Billings; her daughter, Nila (Wally) Beebe of Lolo; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Garden City Funeral Home.
