SISTER MARY SCHOLASTICA.

Educated by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, in Portland, and at Ville Marie, Montreal, Canada.
Entered the Order of the Sisters of Mercy at Mt. St. Mary's, Manchester, NH and was received as a novice by Rt. Rev. D. W. Bacon, D. D., at Mt. St. Mary's on October 21, 1872.
Professed at Mt. St. Mary's, Manchester, by Rt. Rev. D. W. Bacon (as the first Bishop of Portland) June 30, 1874.
Came to Portland and took charge of the orphans then at Free Street. Later went to Indian Island where she labored with great zeal and success among the Indians. Afterwards to Oldtown, then to St. Elizabeth's Academy for many years, finally to St. Joseph's Academy, Deering, where she was stricken with paralysis twenty-four years ago. Since then, an invalid (but not wholly helpless) until her demise January the 26, 1917, at the Mother-house, Deering.
