Frederick HASLER was born in Canton, Berne, Switzerland, May 28, 1825, and departed this life March 19, 1915, aged eighty-nine years, nine months and twenty-one days. He was the son of Peter and Elizabeth HASLER, both natives of Switzerland. They came to this country when Frederick was nineteen years of age and settled near Scotland, Greene county, Indiana, where they remained during the remainder of their lives. Frederick HASLER had four brothers–Peter, Chris, John and Jasper and two sisters Elizabeth and Margaret, all of whom, after having lived to ripe old ages, preceded him to the grave. He was united in marriage to Barbara PORTER in December, 1853. To this union were born ten children–Mary Jane, deceased; Mrs. Margaret HUFFMAN, of Bloomfield; Anna, deceased; Priscilla, deceased; Joseph Benjamin, of Newberry; Frederick Daniel deceased; Mrs. Rebecca TOWELL, of Ladoga; David Milton, of Bisbee, Ariz; Aaron, deceased, and Chris, of Newberry. He was a member of the Lutheran church from his childhood until after his marriage, when he and his wife united with the M. E. church at Scotland. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In 1895 he moved to Newberry where, with his wife, he lived in retirement and on May 16, 1892, he was deprived of the companionship of his faithful wife, after which he continued to reside alone at his old home in Newberry were he was affectionately known by you and old as Uncle Fred. In his declining years he found a great source of pleasure in reading his German newspapers and spent much of his time reading his old Dutch bible. He was a firm believer in christian religion and had been often hear to say that when he went to sleep at night he did so with ill feeling toward no man. He bore his last illness with patience and fortitude often expressing his desire and readiness to cross the river that marks the unknown shore, were we have every reason to believe he is now with his loved ones who have gone on before him. Hd is survived by five children, twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. The funeral was held at the M. E. church at Newberry Tuesday, March 23, conducted by Rev. J. N. BLUE of Danville, Ind., assisted by Pastor O. M. DEAL, of Newberry. Interment in the old Hasler cemetery.
