RAPHINE — John William Swisher, 85, of Raphine died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late John Henry Swisher and Bertha Wade Swisher.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Wade, Lewis and Harry Swisher; one sister, Emily Tillery and Fiancée, Marie Runkle.

John worked at Burlington Industries. He retired from Georgia Bonded Fibers to be a farmer. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 2135 in Fairfield.

Surviving are four siblings, Mildred Ing of Annadale, Ann Beard of Raphine, Jo Heath of Brownsburg and Henry Swisher of New Hope.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at the Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Phillip Mace officiating. Burial will private at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family asks that instead of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of choice. Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
