Mary Lou Phillips, 80, of 149 Rainbow Lane, Candler, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Thaddeus Elmore and Jennie Lee Wright Hyatt. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Sherman Marcell Phillips who died in February, 1996, by a grandson, Rory Phillips, a great-grandson, Devan Phillips, three sisters, Edith Hyatt Morgan Green, Helen Hyatt Setzer and Dorothy Hyatt Ray, and a brother, Jack A. Hyatt.

She was a graduate of Candler High School and Blanton’s Business School and was employed as a corporate secretary for American Enka for 39 years. She was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter Sandra Phillips Jameson of Pisgah Forest; one son, Royce Donovan Phillips and his wife Gwenda Smith Phillips of Candler; four grandchildren, Jill Jameson Waddell and her husband Tim, Lynn Jameson Nash and her husband Tommy, Tyson Donovan Phillips and his wife Kelly, and Logan Perry Phillips; four great- grandchildren, and one sister, WillaDean Hyatt Boyd of Morristown, TN.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Friday at Pole Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Dennis Thurman and G.W. Jameson officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
