Harold H. Dixon, 81, died Tuesday morning (December 10, 2013) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following an extended illness.

He was a native of Brantley County but had lived most of his life in Ware County. He was son of the late Rev. Hughie Dixon and Mattie Woodard Dixon. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mattie Maudine "Shug" Dixon and four brothers, Eugene Dixon, Wendell G. Dixon, Stanton W. Dixon, and Harry D. Dixon, Sr.

He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1991 as an engineer with CSX Railroad after many years of service.

He was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church, the Big Brothers Sunday School Class and had been active in the church choir. He was raised up in and had been a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman, Atlanta Braves fan, and loved listening to and singing gospel music and had formerly been a member of a gospel quartet.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sandra Coleman Dixon, a daughter, Robyn Calkins (husband Matt) of Jacksonville, Fl, a son Rusty Dixon (wife Vicki) of Cincinnati, OH, four grandchildren, Lauren Dixon, Rachel Calkins, Pavel Katchanov, and Isabella Katchanov; two sisters, Myra Fisher (husband Dr. George) of Clarksville, TN, and Marilyn Thornhill (husband Grady) of Waycross, three brothers, Lamar Dixon (wife Hilda) of Waycross, Robert Dixon (wife Ione) of Baine, ME, and Dr. Jimmy Dixon (wife Martha) of St. Simons Island, two sister-in-laws, Arlene Dixon and Reba Dixon of Waycross, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Jamestown Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Members of the Big Brothers Sunday School Class are asked to gather at the church at 1:40 PM Friday to serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday at Music Funeral Home.
