George W. Stafford, 86, Carthage, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at his home, east of Carthage. George William Stafford was born September 5, 1927in Carthage, a son of George Stafford and Hattie Narramore Stafford. He was a 1945 graduate of Diamond High School, Diamond, MO.
He married Elizabeth Stafford on September 16, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas; she preceded him in death on August 21, 2004. George was a department manager for Schreiber Foods, Carthage, retiring in 1989.
He was a U.S. Army veteran during WW II.
Survivors include three daughters; Wanda McBride, husband, Chester, Carthage, Debra Anderson, husband, Ray, Carthage and Beth Stafford, Carthage; one son, Gary Stafford, wife, Janet, Carthage; one sister, Joyce Wood, husband, Ralph, Avondale, Arizona; three brothers, Bob Stafford, wife, Betty, Butler, MO, Loren Stafford, wife, Barbara, Neosho, MO and Larry Stafford, wife, Renee, Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren, Braden McBride, wife, Clarissa, Carthage, Shandy Wilson, husband, Jeff, Carthage, Justin Shaw, Republic, MO and Elizabeth Anderson, Carthage; three great grandchildren, Hadley and Braxton McBride, Carthage and Natalie Wilson, Carthage.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Dale Stafford and a brother, John Stafford. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, December 11 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, December 12 at Fullerton Cemetery, south of Carthage. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO.
