Dr. and Mrs. Oswald Swinncy Lowsley of 20 E. 93d St., Manhattan; New Canaan, CT, and Bayshore, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ann Lowsley to John Ellis of Philadelphia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Pell Ellis of Philadelphia, formerly of Greenwich, CT. Miss Lowsley who made her debut on Dec. 21 at the Park Lane Hotel Manhattan, is a descendant of an old Virginia family, including the Swinneys, Rossers and Stiths, who settled there in 1600. She is a great-grandniece of General Tom Rosser one of Lee's generals in the Civil War, and a grand-niece of Edward F. Swinnev of Kansas City, MO. She attended the Spence School.
Mr. Ellis is the grandson of Howard Ellis, Minister to the Netherlands under the late President Grover Cleveland, and a direct descended of Lord John Pell, who founded Pelham Manor. On his mother's side he is a great-grandson of Ramon Martinez Hernandez, Cuban banker who largely financed the ten years' war against Spain. He attended the Peekskill Military Academy, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Alpha chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity.
