CLEAR SPRING - Daniel Edward Blair, age 79, of 10 Cumberland St., Clear Spring, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at the Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 10, 1926, in Sharpsburg, Md., he was the son of the late George B. Blair and Laura H. Drury Blair.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Clear Spring, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII and the Korean Wars. He retired from Chessie System Railroad after 31 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring where he served as the past commander, and was a member of the Mercersburg VFW. He was also a lifetime member and past president of the Stoney Cabin Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth Bowers Blair of Clear Spring, whom he married on Jan. 16, 1954; one daughter, Kimberly A. Blair Cunningham and husband Jack of Clear Spring; three sons, Dale E. Blair and wife Sharon, Steven L. Blair and wife Lynn, both of Clear Spring, and Amos Bridendolph and wife Vickie of Williamsport; a sister, Mary Blair Mason of Clear Spring; two brothers, Ray Blair Sr. and Bruce Blair, both of Clear Spring; and a special nephew whom he raised, Bob Sabine of Norfolk, Va.; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Grace Blair, Stella Spigler, Ruth Mundey and Hester Stevens; and seven brothers, Edgar Blair, Richard Blair, Dwight Blair, Harry Paulsgrove, John Blair, Samuel Blair and Dallas Blair.

Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. Rev. Charles Mackley will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, with military honors by the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
