Pete Bartels was born Oct. 7, 1918 in Sioux Center, Iowa, and he passed away peacefully Dec. 4, 2013 at the age of 95. His parents were John and Anna Bartels. Pete's siblings were Grace Timmer, Louis Bartels, and Jane Bonnema. Pete met Augusta Fredriks in Minnesota, and they were married Jan. 25, 1940. They moved to California in the 1950's. They have eight children: Darryl (Michele) Bartels, Arlyn (Pam) Bartels, Duane (Carlyn) Bartels, Lonnie (Elaine) Bartels, Joan Docter/Reeves (Bob Weaver), Verle (Diane) Bartels, Lauren (Leanne) Bartels, and Robin Bair (Tom). Pete had 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and his buddy "Ollie", "the best dog in the world." Pete worked in the grocery and hardware business allowing him to interact within the community.

Pete is preceded in death by his wife, Augusta, to whom he was married 71 years.

Visitation will be held at Deegan Ripon Funeral Chapel: Wed., Dec. 11, 2013, 3-7 p.m. Burial will take place at Ripon Cemetery on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at Calvary Reformed Church at 11 a.m. in Ripon.
