AGED MOTHER TAKEN BY DEATH FOLLOWING AN ILLNESS OF MANY WEEKS

On Saturday, October 25, the curtain was drawn for Mrs. Caroline Fortman, who had been a life long resident of Minster. Her death occurred at her home on North Cleveland street. She was an invalid for the last two years. Long life and perhaps great physical labor had weakened her heart and who suffered from an ailment of this organ as the days and months passed by. During the last six weeks of her life she was confined to the sick chamber.

The funeral was held at St. Augustine church in Minster on Wednesday morning and the mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Sixtus Meyer, C.PP.S. Many life long friends were present while the members of the St. Monica society, of which she was a member, gave due expression of the sorrow over their loss. The interment was made in the local cemetery.

Mrs. Fortman was born in Minster on July 18, 1849, and on the day of her death she was aged 75 years, 3 months and 7 days. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Frilling, who are remembered by many of the more elderly citizens of this day and generation. These people died many years ago, only her brother is left, Mr. Bernard Frilling, who lives at Ft. Loramie.

In the year of 1862, Miss Frilling was married to Mr. John Fortman who was a prominent young man in this locality. They lived together until January 19, 1918, when Mr. Fortman died. The husband was a cooper by trade and his services were of particular importance at a time when an expert in that line of work was demanded.

They were the parents of a large family of children, some of whom died in the early years of their lives. Five, however, are now living and they are: Mrs. Anne Vandenbrock of Minster; Mrs. Josephine Hausfeld of Minster; Mrs. Mamie Hausfeld of St. Marys; Mr. Frank Fortman of St. Marys; and Mr. Henry Fortman of Minster.
