Teresa B. Rubio (Teresita) "La Gran Tejana" 85, passed away November 27, 2013 at Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Teresita was the third child born to Bernardo Borrego and Juliana Salmon on May 13, 1928 in Terlingua, TX.

As a child Teresita was a rough and tumble tom boy who enjoyed playing marbles, swimming in what she described the clearest creeks in the world. She said she felt as if she were swimming in the clouds, because the clouds reflected so beautifully in the water. Teresita loved climbing trees to read whatever written material she could get her hands on. She was a tough little girl, but she blossomed into a beautiful and very shy young lady. At the age of 16 she became a Nanny for one of the most affluent families in the Mesilla Valley. When she was 21 she met the love of her life, a vivacious young man with a head of dark curly hair and flirtatious eyes. He mistook her shyness for conceit and set out to tease her unmercifully, yet she accepted a date with him, and he loved his Tejanita and proposed marriage right away, because he thought someone would take her away. He was right, she did have boys beating a path to her doorway, even the boys she threw rocks at. Teresita had dreams of becoming a nurse, but times were tough and she wasn't able to fulfill that dream. She however did become the best Herbalist Nurse in the world when she became a mother. She nursed all her children to health with plants and leaves, and none of them got real sick and died either. She also had great faith in Vicks, one can't forget the Vicks . She was a devout Catholic, and knew by heart all the Saints and what intentions one would take to them.

She tried very hard to instill her Catholic Faith in her children as well, but it was a few of her grandchildren that were truly amazed by Catholicism. Besides reading her bible she read her Louis L'Amour books, and again whatever written materials she could get her hands on.

She enjoyed music her favorite musicians were Ruben Ramos, Little Joe, Sunny Ozuna, and she loved Freddy Fender with a passion. Her choice in music was diverse however, because she also loved Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt and Placido Domingo. Then there was Vicente Fernandez, she owned countless CD's of his, and she enjoyed watching the movies he starred in. Teresita played the piano, and organ by ear. She loved to sing and for years no matter what the weather she went with her husband from house to house on Mothers Day to serenade Moms with " Las Mananitas".

Besides being a Domestic Goddess, she was also a seamstress, making her own patterns out of newspaper to sew dresses for her daughters, and shirts for her sons. If she had a leaky faucet she didn't call a plumber, she fixed it herself. She washed clothes in a wringer spinner machine, and hung it out to dry, never complaining. She was a great cook, and could make a gourmet meal out of whatever she had in her kitchen. She was the one friends and family went to when they needed large amounts of spanish rice, beans and potato salad. She also made huge pots of caldo that everyone enjoyed.

She was truly a Jill of all trades, but she was by far the best wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. There were times that she had to work outside the home and she'd work as a Housekeeper and cafeteria worker, but mostly she was a stay at home mom who always had a meal on the table for her large family. Her house was always clean smelling of bleach or Pine Sol, how she did all that she did in the little time with as many children as she had remains a mystery. She treated herself to a Bingo game every so often, and she went out dancing with her husband every weekend as well.

She was involved in the PTA when her older children were younger, and she accompanied them on field trips. She loved the title " Room Mother" and it is certain that she's the very best " Room Mother" in Heaven.

She never wore make up, never fussed with her hair and if she wore sweat pants or capris she looked just as glamorous as if she were wearing an evening gown. She always said we weren't taking anything with us when we died so we shouldn't value material goods, we shouldn't value money. In the end, her advice proved to be true. In the end she wasn't dressed in fine clothing, or jewelry, she wore only a hospital gown, but she rocked that hospital gown as she lay there holding one of her daughters hands in hers. She smiled peacefully, and radiantly as her beautiful soul left her body. In the end she proved we don't take anything with us, we don't even take our bodies just our souls. In the end that's all God our Father claims, our Souls. Teresita, and her many roles she played in life; daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandma, great grandma, great, great grandma, friend, sister-in-law, teacher, nurse, room mother, plumber, seamstress, domestic goddess, care giver to her own mom, all she was got wrapped in one role: She is now an Angel who'll continue to walk with all those she loved. Her Earthly presence will be greatly missed, but she left many, many memories behind.

Teresa was survived by her six sons and six daughters, of Molene, IL, of Cut-off, LA, and of Las Vegas, NV. Teresa was also survived by 48 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and two great great grandsons. Teresa was also survived by her brother and sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Teresa was preceded in death by her husband Salvador R Rubio in 2008, her sons Ramon B Rubio in 1998, Lorenzo B Rubio in 2011, and her granddaughter Serina Terese Clark in 2010.

The funeral mass was celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. The Rite of committal and interment followed at Masonic Cemetary. Serving as casket bearers, were Santiago B. Rubio,Leonel B. Rubio,Johnny B. Rubio, Nicholas A. Rubio, Pedro J. Gonzalez and Miguel A. Herrera.

The Rubio family has entrusted their loved one to La Paz Grahams Funeral Home.
