John massie 1756-1800 was born in Albemarle County, Virginia to Captain Charles Massie and Mary Davis on the Spring Valley plantation. He married Susanah Wright daughter of Benjamin Wright and Elizabeth Jenkins on 1779. He served as a ensign in the American revolution. He tried to get a pension after the war but couldnt because of documentary difficulties. His service is listed in the book (Amherst county, Virginia in the Revolution including extracts from the Lost Order Book, 1773-1782 page 36). His father Charles Massie served as a Captian in the 6th Virginia regiment. He was was a teacher in the piny river district of Amherst county va. He was said to be the first teacher in the area. He is buried in a unmarked grave because his original one was destroyed or broken. He is buried in the Spring Valley cemetary which also goes by the name of Massie family cemetary. The spring valley cemetary has its own website which is an exellent source of information on the Massie family. John has many desendants. They have played Important roles in Virginia's history. Many served with the confederacy during the civil war and there have been several represenatives desended from him.
