Lydia was the oldest of five girls born to David and Susan Loring of Concord, MA. She was married to Jonathan Fay Barrett on April 27, 1848, and she had one of the earliest pre nuptials I have seen. Apparently, while her father was away in Texas on business, Lydia and her mother, Susan, had gone on a shopping spree in anticipation for her pending marriage. This spree included household furnishings, personal items and numerous items listed in the agreement.
