Michael Joseph Barry is recorded on the Fishermans' Memorial in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Unfortunately his name is recorded erroneously as "Thomas Joseph Barry", and it seems that he was known commonly as "Joseph Barry". Joseph Barry was lost on the Fishing Schooner Massasoit on (Friday) June 9 1882, when the 74 ton schooner hit an iceberg off of St. Johns New Foundland. Four other crew members were lost in the accident, but the captain of the fishing schooner and 7 other crew reached St. Johns New Foundland, in dories, two days later.
