RUTLAND TOWN - Avis L. Turner, 82, of Rutland Town, VT, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013.

She was born in Easton, PA, the daughter of Fredrick H., Jr. and Harriet (Stewart) Laubach.

She was the wife of the late Thomas G. Turner; they met in eighth grade and enjoyed 56 years of marriage.

Avis attended Cedar Crest College and received her degree in education from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. Following college, Avis began her teaching career and became a full-time homemaker after she and Tom married.

Avis had a deep knowledge and love of flowers and gardening, and this continued through all her years.

She was an honorary member and past president of the Rutland Garden Club, having held numerous officer titles and chairmanships over her 20+ years of membership. Avis was also a State Lifetime Member - Federated Garden Clubs of Vermont, Inc.

She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family at their camp on Lake Bomoseen.

Avis was very proud of her and Tom's four children and 12 grandchildren: daughter Avis and husband, Bob Lane of CT, with son Robin; son Tom and wife, Darcy of MD, with daughter Ava and son Andrei; Todd and his late wife, Debra of PA, with sons Jack, Sam, Cole and Will, and daughters Jena, Abby, Olivia and Maggie; and Brad and wife, Virginia of MA, with daughter Kaitlin. Also surviving are a sister, Harriet Pickel of DE; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Fredrick H. Laubach III.

Her family wishes to thank the staff and friends at The Gables for their support and care.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
