Eugene Lawrence Jacobs, 78, of the Iotla Community, died Monday, April 12, in Angel Community Hospital following two years of declining health. He was the son of the late Solomon and Margaret Roper Jacobs.
A native of Macon County, he was retired from the State Highway Department of Public Works after 30 years of service.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Bessie Baldwin Jacobs; three daughters, Miss Kate Jacobs, of the home, Mrs. Lois Meadows, of Franklin; and Mrs. Frank Byrd, of Brevard; three sons, Radford and J.C. Jacobs, of Franklin, and Carroll Jacobs, of Madison Heights, Mich., two sisters, Mrs. Chauncey Cunningham, of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. James Stilley, of Gainesville, Ga; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Iotla Baptist Church, of which Mr. Jacobs was a member and burial was in the church cemetery. Officiating ministers were the Rev. M.I. Brock, pastor, and Dr. W. Thomas Lane, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Franklin. Pallbearers were Carl Baldwin, Terrell Parrish, Robert Morgan, Joel Dalton, Lon Dalton, and Spencer Ledford. Employees of the N.C. State Highway Department served as honorary pallbearers.
Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
