Lawrence Burnett, 86, of Gillett, PA died on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at home. He was born on June 10, 1914 in East Smithfield, PA, a son of the late John and Juliette (Phelps) Burnett. Larry was an active member of the Bentley Creek Baptist Church. He was a member of the Bentley Creek Lincoln Grange, the Big Pond Lions and the Chemung Valley Waverly Lodge of Masons. He was also a member of the Waverly Moose Lodge, a charter member of the Ridgebury Fire Dept., the Tri-Township Ambulance Ass'n, Ridgebury Division where he was one of the first EMTs and was a member of the Ansco Small Bore Rifle Sharp Shooting Team of Binghamton, NY. Larry served on the board of directors for the Farm Museum of Troy and the East Smithfield Bank. He is survived by his son, Gerald (Judith) Burnett of Towanda, PA; daughters, Beverly (Tommy) Rocco of East Smithfield, Juliette "Judy" (Steve) Walsh of Bentley Creek; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother Jack (Millicent) Burnett of Centerville, PA; nieces and nephews. Larry is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Jane (Soper) Burnett. Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsburg, NY on January 31 (10 am) with Pastor Rick Wulf officiating and interment to be in Ulster Cemetery. Donations in Mr. Burnett's name may be directed to Guthrie Hospice, RR 1, Box 154, Towanda, PA 18848 or the Bentley Creek Baptist Church, RR 3, Box 133, Gillett, PA 16925.
