Jo Ann Altsman, 74, of Brighton Township, died Friday, November 29, 2013, in Good Samaritan Hospice of Beaver.

Born April 12, 1939, in Beaver, a daughter of the late Carl and Thelma Sayer Tolbert, she was the president of the Beaver County Chapter of Republican Women and was involved in politics and community service. A former Girl Scout leader, she was the former president of the PTA at the 5th Avenue Elementary School in Beaver Falls. She also enjoyed camping in Presque Isle and in Parker, Pa.

Surviving are a daughter, Jackie Ann Smith of Coraopolis; a son, Jack Carl Altsman of McKean County; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. Altsman, and a daughter, Angie Anzur.

Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where a service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

Interment will follow in Beaver Falls Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Kidney Dialysis.

She was once rescued by her pet pig LuLu. They were featured on a TV show about extraordinary pets.
