Thankful D. Whitney (15 Nov 1815 to 11 Oct 1888) was born in Ohio County, (W)Virginia on 13 November 1805. Thankful spent nearly all of her life living between Marshall & Wetzel Counties of (W)Virginia as found in the 1850, 1860, 1870 Census' of Wetzel County, (W)Virginia. Se married Benjamin "Benj." Johnston/Johnson in 1833 in Ohio County, (W)Virginia. To this marriage were born 13 children, 9 girls and 4 boys. Eunice Jane, Charlesworth, Haman, Rhoda Elizabeth, Jeramiah (infant death), Drusilla, Nancy A., Mary Ellen, Benjamin Franklin, Malissa, Melvina Amanda, Angeline, & John Wiley Johnson. Most of the children stayed in and around the Wetzel County area.

Thankful passed away 11 October 1888 in Proctor, Wetzel, West Virginia as recorded in ‘Death Record Book E-K, Page 111. The exact location of his grave has not been determined for certain, but I believe she and Benjamin are buried in the Mount Olive Cemetery as are several of Thankful's family members including her mother, Eunice Cottle – Whitney.
