Claudia Smith Edwards, 88, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at Genesis ElderCare in Mooresville. Born Feb. 11, 1915 in Rowan County to the late Claude and Florence Overcash Smith, Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and a member of Unity United Methodist Church in Kannapolis.
She was married to Doy Aycock Edwards, who preceded her in death Sept. 2, 1995. Mrs. Edwards is survived by five daughters, Hilda Chester, Naomi Scarborough, Alice Martin, Irene Ashley and Shirley Barry, all of Mooresville; four sons, Bill and Donald Edwards, both of Mooresville, Joe Edwards of Midland and Jerry Edwards of Wilmington; a brother, Leroy Smith of Kannapolis; a sister, Virginia Maxwell of Kannapolis; 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Unity United Methodist Church with Revs. Carl Settle and Keith Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. Memorials may be made to Unity United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 8505 Unity Church Road, Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.
