Mr. Morris Thornton, age 86, of Screven, died Monday afternoon (11/25/13) at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup following an extended illness.

A lifelong resident of K'ville, Mr. Thornton was born January 1, 1927 to the late Thomas J. and Ella Crews Thornton. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army during World War II and was retired from Suburban Gas where he had drove the gas truck for many years. He also was a mechanic and had farmed all of his life. He was a faithful member and deacon of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Screven.

Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Murray Thornton of K'ville; 2 sons: Jerry M. Thornton (wife Kathleen) and James "Jimmy" Thornton (wife Cheryl), all of K'ville; 7 grandchildren: Heidi Thomas (husband Tim) of Milledgeville, GA, Charissa Fitch (husband Brannon) of Atlanta, Amber Watts (husband Josh) of Statesboro, GA, Jennifer Johnson (husband Chris) of Reidsville, GA, Jamie Thornton of Brunswick, Aaron Thornton (wife Bethany) of Guyton, GA, Miranda James (husband Jerry) of Surrency, and Eric Mizel (wife Jessica) of Alma; 15 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Johnny Murray of Orlando, FL; a sister-in-law: Eva Mae Murray of Surrency, GA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Wednesday morning at 11 AM in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home in Blackshear. Burial will follow in Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Big Creek Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Ardle Lightsey, 565 Lightsey Road, Odum, GA 31555.
