Ralph L. Guthrie Coatesville, Pa

Ralph L. Guthrie, 85, Coatesville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at the Neighborhood Hospice Inpatient Unit of West Chester. He was the beloved husband of Ada "Jeanette" (March) Guthrie, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

Born in Ercildoun, he was the son of the late Laura (Thomas) and H. Mahlon Guthrie.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army. An area resident his entire life, he retired from Bell Telephone in 1984 after 38 years of employment as a PBX installer.

He also worked for 12 years at Pennsylvania Photo License Centers and 10 years for Krapf Paratransit. Ralph was a devoted trustee of the Thorndale U.M. Church and monthly Men's Luncheon. He was a Past Master and 50 year member of the Brandywine Goddard Lodge No. 383. He also a member of the Centennial Commandry No. 55 Knights Templar, Coatesville Royal Arch Chapter No. 267, the Reading Consistory, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Ralph was also a life member of Clan Guthrie, Telephone Pioneers, and Treasurer for 30 year of the Guthrie Reunion held annually in Guthriesville, For 12 years Ralph worked in his cousin's (Lou Pyle) woodshop with Ted Waltz and other friends producing furniture. He is survived, in addition to his wife; by his son, Steve M. Guthrie, husband of Pamela, of West Caln; brother, Joseph Guthrie of Elizabethtown; and his beloved and faithful dachshund Buddy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30th, at the Thorndale U.M. Church, 3503 Lincoln Hwy., Thorndale, PA 19372, with a viewing from 10 until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Thorndale U. M. Church at the above address; or the Brandywine Goddard Lodge, 360 E Lincoln Hwy., Coatesville, PA 19320. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg.
