MUNISING - Cecil H. Goodrich, age 79, of Munising, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. Cecil was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on March 13, 1926 to Hervey and Elva (Short) Goodrich. Cecil also had a stepfather, Jack Gotfredson. He attended Deerton Elementary School, and Mather High School in Munising. He married Louella Humphrey, she preceded him in death. He later married Doris (Robinson) Phillipson on June 25, 1992. Cecil was employed at Munising Paper Company, Kimberly Clark. He began his employment on April 2, 1951 as a trucker in Sulphite Department, he transferred into the Specialities Department progressing through many jobs, he then moved into the Powerhouse as an Assistant Fireman, the position he held until his retirement on July 1, 1986. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Japanese Islands; he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal of Japan, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a member of the DAV and American Legion. Cecil was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Cecil is survived by his wife Doris, 4 daughters, Diane Goodrich of Christmas, Cecile Johnson of Chatham, Paula Goodrich of Munising, Shirley Goodrich of Christmas, also a son, Lorne (Julie) Goodrich of Munising, 1 sister, Paul Sadak of Munising. 6 step-children, numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Cecil was preceded in death by a brother Elsworth Goodrich.

A Graveside Service will be conducted by Rev. Gary I. Stevens at the Maple Grove Cemetery on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at noon, beginning with military honors by The Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard. Visiting and consoling time with family will begin following the conclusion of the service, and will be held at the American Legion facility. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association in Cecil's memory.
