Affectionately known by his many students as "Mr. A". Edwin taught science, math, and other topics in his long career in the Catholic grade school system. He was a devoted, caring, and exceptional teacher who brought out the very best in every student. His legacies are the legion of students he taught, and his loving family. Mr. A's obituary from the Winston-Salem Journal is below.


ARUNDALE WINSTON-SALEM Edwin Ernest Arundale, Jr. November 6, 2013 Mr. Edwin Ernest Arundale, Jr., of Winston-Salem, formerly of Warwick, RI, devoted and loving husband and father, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 after an illness. Mr. Arundale was born to Edwin E. Arundale, Sr. and Rose Donnelly Arundale in Pawtucket, RI. He was educated at Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Warwick, RI and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, MD before finishing his studies at Providence College, Providence, RI. He was a schoolteacher in the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island for 35 years. Upon retirement, Mr. Arundale relocated with his wife to Winston-Salem to be closer to his son. Mr. Arundale was a devoted life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox, and enjoyed watching them win one last World Series. Mr. Arundale is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan Gill, and son, Matthew Arundale, both of Winston-Salem; six brothers: Henry Arundale of North Attleboro, MA; William, John and Gilbert Arundale of Pawtucket, RI; Michael Arundale of East Providence, RI; and Kevin Arundale of Cranston, RI. He is also survived by three sisters: Florence Greaves and Patricia Fagundes of East Providence, RI; and Rosemary Joy of Papillon, NE, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston-Salem. Visitation will be held at Salem Funeral Home, Main Street in Winston-Salem, on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Mr. Arundale's commitment to Catholic education, memorials may be made to Msgr. Matthew F. Clarke Catholic Regional School, 5074 Tower Hill Road, Wakefield, RI 02879-2244 or to St. Leo the Great Catholic School, 335 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
