LIVERMORE FALLS – S. Paul Washburn, 92, of Livermore Falls, died peacefully at his home on Thursday evening, Nov. 21, 2013. He was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Garland, the only child of Charles E. and Mabel A. (Appleton) Washburn.
He received his education in Garland schools and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. For many years he was employed at International Paper Co., Jay, where he was employed as a bookkeeper in the business office.

He married the former Ellen Tobey of Kittery Point. She predeceased him in 2000. Together, they enjoyed many years of shared interests in fraternal organizations. Paul was a member of the Pine Cone Chapter No. 26, OES of Auburn; the Odd Fellows, the Bradford Royal Arch Chapter No. 9, and was a member of the Oriental Star Lodge No. 0021 of Livermore Falls, The Knights Templar Commandery No. 6 and the Grand Lodge AF & AM and the Kora Temple Shrine. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Livermore Falls and served on the Franklin Memorial Hospital Board of Directors for many years. He was a member of the I.P. Quarter Century Club and following his retirement from the mill, worked as a licensed funeral attendant at the Wiles Funeral Homes, Inc. In his younger years, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time at his family cottage at Sebec Lake. His quietness could often give way to a quick smile and wry wit.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Charles Tobey and his wife, Alice of Eliot; several nieces, nephews and a cousin, Stanley Powell.

Graveside committal services will be from the First Parish Cemetery, York. (Bangor Daily News 11/25/2013)
