James Younie, Sr., 90, a resident of Hawarden and vicinity, 68 years, died Tuesday evening at the Panska Nursing home where he had been cared for for some time. Mr. Younie had been in poor health the past year.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Associated church with Rev. John C. Thorns officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral service.

Pall bearers will be three grandsons, Scott and Gene Younie and Kay Carsten and Marvin Larson, Charles McManaman and Lloyd Youngkin.

Mr. Younie was the first custodian of Oak Grove state park and served in this capacity 14 years. During this time the park became a picnic ground visited by many from this entire community.

For over 60 years he was a member of the Presbyterian church, which later became a part of the Associated church.

A son of Lewis and Jane Younie, he was a member of a family of 10 children, all of whom have preceded him in death. He was born October 26, 1861, at Manchester, Delaware county, Iowa. When a young boy he moved to Odebolt, where he lived a number of years. As a youth of 22 he came to Sioux county and engaged in farming.

On November 28, 1888, he was united in marriage with Emma Metcalf of Hawarden and to this union were born six children, a daughter, Florence, died in infancy.

Survivors are the widow; five children, Russell, Elmer, James, Jr., and Mrs. Lois Carsten of Hawarden and Paul of Gowrie, Iowa; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He had been married 63 years and in 1938 Mr. and Mrs. Younie observed their golden wedding.
