Jacob served in the Navy during the Civil War.
Jacob was a photographer, with an 1860's studio in West Chester, Pennsylvania. His photos are signed on back as J. S. Beecher and today for sale under that name on EBay, etc.
He married first Lillian L. ? (perhaps Simpson), mother of sons Harry D. Beecher and Wayne Beecher. They were divorced and in the 1880 census Jacob had moved his business to Wilmington and was living alone with son Harry.
About 1890 he married second Ada Emmons, mother of son Paul Emmons Beecher.
