Elias Fissel, 75, a former sheriff of Adams County, one-time steward at the county home and for a number of years a hotel proprietor here and at Littlestown, died at his home in Hanover, at 9:10 o'clock. Saturday evening, from a complication of diseases. Before being elected sheriff of the county in 1908, Mr. Fissel served as steward at the county home. His term as sheriff was for three years. For a number of years, he was proprietor of the old Wabash hotel, Baltimore street, now the Bender apartments building. In Littlestown, he conducted the Central hotel and the Ocker house. He moved to Hanover from Littlestown three years ago.
He was married twice, his first wife being the late Miss Ellen Diehl. His second wife, who survives, was Mrs. Annie Crouse. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Elmer Kepner, York; Mrs. Edgar Rittinger, Harrisburg; Mrs. T. S. Blocher, Littlestown, and Mrs. L. A. Kohler, Littlestown, and the following step-children; Mrs. Charles Wintrode, Littlestown; Mrs. Clarence Myers, Hanover; Mrs. Leroy Wine, Hanover; Vernon and Rosella Crouse, at home, and Ernest Crouse, Hanover. Two brothers, William and Cyrus Fissel, both of Greenmount, Maryland; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Little, Harrisburg, Mrs. Ida Bowers, hanover; Miss. Yillie Champion, Adams county, and Mrs. George Kebil, Fairfield; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. D. S. Kammerer, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Littlestown, officiating. Interment in Evergreen cemetery here.
