Barbara Joan Shinn, 84, of Decatur, IL passed away on Tuesday (Nov. 19, 2013) at Evergreen Assisted Living Center, Decatur, IL.

A service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 1:00p.m. On Friday (Nov. 22, 2013) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. On Thursday at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Maroa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Rock Springs Environmental or Lutheran School Association.

Barbara was born on April 13, 1929 in Maroa, IL, the daughter of Dewey R. and Ruth (Adams) Bunner. She married John W. "Jack" Shinn on October 1, 1949. She was an avid Chicago Cub fan and loved the outdoors. Barbara retired from Decatur Memorial Hospital after 20 years and then volunteered at Rock Springs. She later was offered a job with the Macon County Conservation Distrct and retired when she was 80.

Surviving are her sons:Randy (Joy) Shinn, John (Marlene) Shinn, David (Sandy) Shinn; daughter: Janet (Stuart) Whitfield; grandsons: Matthew, Rodney and Curtis Shinn; granddaughters: Stacey Shinn, Nicole Fellman and Lisa Miloser; 5 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters; several nephews and two special nieces: Judy Leschewski and Jean Dady.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters: Harriett Dady and Alberta German and one niece.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cancer Care Specialists, the staff of Evergreen Assisted Living with special thanks to Jennifer, Cassie and Karissa. Also, thank you to the residents of Evergreen, especially Rev. Ken and Mary Anne. All go you made Barbara feel like a part of the family. Thank you to Karen, for all of your kindness and caring.
