Life's Work/Service/Interests: While teaching third grade in Heber City, Utah, Gwen met and married Fred G. "Frosty" Richards. In 1934, they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They settled in American Fork in 1944 and raised their family. Fred died in 1994, and Gwen lived alone until 2006, when she moved to The Charleston at Cedar Hills, where she was cherished. Her loved ones are grateful to everyone there for their wonderful care of her and for the other residents, whom she loved. Gwen taught elementary school for 34 years and loved her students! She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving diligently in the Church auxiliaries, in the temple, and doing name extraction. She consistently kept a journal. Gwen was witty and fun to be with. She encouraged her family to work, to love reading, poetry, and music, to be good citizens and to love their own families. She taught them how to live joyfully and to endure gracefully and faithfully to the end. Beloved mother and grandmother, Gwen Mathews Richards, passed peacefully from this life Friday, November 15, 2013. She was 103.
