PHELPS, Louise Bowers, 83, of Independence (Long's Gap Community), passed away Sunday, October 10, 1993 in Birdmont Manor Nursing Home, Wytheville, Va.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by her husband, Calvin L. Phelps, Elk Creek; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Ralph D. Taylor, Independence; step daughter, Pauline Shuler, Elk Creek; two step sons, Charles Phelps, Helena, Mont., Joe Phelps, Salem; and seven step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 1993 in the Salem United Methodist Church, with interment in Independence Cemetery. Rev. Joe Mack Taylor and Rev. Rick Eminhizer officiating. The body will lie in state at the church thirty minutes preceding service. The body will remain at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, where the family will receive friends Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. The family will be at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ralph D. Taylor, Main St., Independence, where friends may call at any time. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements.
