But who was James E. Jim Farringer?
From his obituary, one would see that his children from his marriage were raised apart him. Indeed we were, in Iowa.
As a child in Iowa I often wondered who he was. If I would know him if I passed him on a sidewalk. Questions most children would have.
My journey to find my father James and who he was started in 1981. At the age of 18, I and the love of my life Julia were visiting my cousin Danny. The conversation was centered around Julia and I getting married. Danny asked me if I had any contact with my father. I said no.
Two days later he handed me my father's address and phone number. We called him. Jims voice fit my picture of him.
I meet my father for the first time in 1983. He and my Grandmother Jane came to Iowa for a visit. My first impression was Wow this is my father.
But still& ... who is he?
In Dec 1985 my wife son and I traveled to Texas for Christmas and New Years. There for the first time I meet my sister Dion and her mother Janis. We were instantly part of the family. I learned much about My Texas Family as well as those who were in Iowa that I never knew.
There were other visits through the years. Family reunions and the like. All the time I was learning more about Who James Farringer was.
The most recent part of my personal journey to find out who James Farringer is, had more to do with me than him. You see I knew he was my father and I respected and loved him for that.
Growing up I had several male role models growing up that I called my Dad! My father Jim was not among them.
Through the years people discuss their life or get asked questions about it. I wondered why this man James Farringer couldn't be on my dads list? I He had done those things a dad does for his child. He had taught me about love, family, life and many other things. He was there for me when I was going through a hard time in my life. So why wasn't he on my dads list? To put it simply forgiveness . Not his but mine. I needed to forgive him and myself.
who was James E. Farringer Jim Like many he was a plain simple man. He was a husband, a father, a grandpa, a brother. He was a jack of all trades and master at all he chose to do. He was and is most definitely a child of God. Last but not least he was also my Dad!
Thank you.
